When I was at CloudLinux, I was asked to write the text for a new product web site. I asked if I could propose some layout changes for the site as well, and was told to go ahead. So, I created a sample layout of a new home page.
This “wireframe” as some call it, departs from the current home page in that it makes the site more user-friendly. The wireframe:
- Includes a global navigation bar at the top of the page, which shows users that the product is one of the company’s three main products.
- Inserts a tagline below the product name that lets users know what the product is and does: “Live patching for Linux servers.”
- Employs a headline and accompanying text that tells site users, simply and directly, what the product can do for them.
- Limits the amount of information on the home page. This is important, because humans can process only so much information at once. Presenting only top-level info on the home page makes site users comfortable and prevents “information overload.”
